Top 5 Tips for Office Secret Santa!

Buying a Secret Santa gift for your work colleague doesn’t have to be a stressful exercise! Just follow our tips below and your recipient will be saying Ho Ho Ho rather than No No No!

Tip 1

Stick to the budget! There is nothing that makes people more uncomfortable than receiving a gift that is clearly above (or below) the specified amount. There is a limit for a reason.

Tip 2

Avoid ‘joke’ or ‘humorous’ gifts unless you know the person very well. This area is fraught with danger and may not always come across as intended.

Tip 3

Avoid overly personal gifts – no one wants to receive pyjamas, a toothbrush or a set of scales from a colleague. No brainer!

Tip 4

Remember, your Secret Santa recipient will eventually find out who gave them the gift, so make sure you buy them something that you are happy with them knowing it came from you!

Tip 5

Do your research! What does your Secret Santa like? Sports? Food and wine? Travel? Do they have a favourite colour or accessory? If in doubt, ask a colleague who knows them a bit better – just make sure you swear them to secrecy!

Suggested Shops

Useful stores to look in include David Jones, Myer, Target, Freedom, Big W, Typo and K Mart. Alternatively, you could ditch the commercial options completely, and use the budgeted amount to donate to charity – just make sure they have something to open on the day. Ofxam is a great option, as they can open a card which lets them know that they have bought a goat, duck, or a veggie garden to support life-changing Oxfam projects around the world!
